How do we encourage and implement new approaches?

The world of SMT is changing, so the programs in our schools need to change as well. Dynamic programs help students grow accustomed to the dynamic world they will find after graduation. Seek out innovative approaches that have worked elsewhere or, if necessary, try something completely new in your district. Building a culture that embraces continuous improvement is part of what we can pass onto students, preparing them for an ever-changing world.

Board members, of course, only serve a limited amount of time. But while in office, it is their responsibility to plan for the long term. As you help your district develop a state-of-the-art SMT program, also prepare people to remain open to the next innovation further on down the line.
