How do we secure resources for SMT education?
Not much can happen without adequate resources. Strong SMT programs can be particularly demanding. Schools might have trouble attracting qualified instructors who can find higher-paying jobs in industry, and equipping student laboratories is expensive. Different communities will have different needs and capabilities, but new or improved SMT programs might require more than your district thinks it can afford. On the other hand, the time and expertise that people in your community have to offer can be as valuable as any financial resource.
Fortunately, there are options. As a school board member, you are the liaison between the administrators and the wider community. It is likely that you are well-suited to help the district look under yet-unturned rocks in order to provide for essential programs.
